ABOUT WE-DESIGNS.ORG

ORIGINS

Conceived in 2003, and officially launched as a collective in 2008, WE-DESIGNS.ORG is an international multi-disciplinary creative group. As a developmental and collaborative team of creatives (architectural + design) individuals, all our designs are established within the international standard, detailed orientated, quality within multiple design functions, but not limited to: material research, alternative fabrication methods, sound design, interactive installation, architectural, urban planning, and research-based design schemes.

The WE-DESIGNS.ORG "Team" members are composed of an international base of ingénue designers from distinctive backgrounds + multifaceted design fields, which hence produce a differentiated approach to the integral design processes within a project.

ORGANISATION

WE-DESIGNS.ORG takes its design theories + experimental approach collectively as a design collaborative from all its diverse members. All decisions are considered from the members within the "pool" of designers + points of views from within the Team before a project is finalised.

WE-DESIGNS.ORG is originally founded by Wendy W Fok. Young enough to be original and experienced enough to be competent, Fok began her design career in a few fashion houses in New York, which then led to collaborations at MAKE Architects (London), Eichinger Offices (Vienna), and COOP-HIMMELB(L)AU (Vienna) under the auspices of Wolf D Prix. Fok is educated with a Master of Architecture at Princeton University’s School of Architecture, an Urban Policy/Planning Certification at the Woodrow Wilson School, a touch from the Bartlett, and a Bachelor of Arts (Architecture - Economics) at Barnard College, Columbia University.

WENDY W FOK

BACKINFORMATION

WENDY W FOK: New York, NY / Vienna, Austria / Hong Kong, HK
(Founder: Architectural Designer/Installation Artist/Urbanist)

Wendy W Fok, director/founder and team member of WE-DESIGNS.ORG, LLC (Architecture) and studio-WF (Art), winner of the Hong Kong Young Design Talent Award (2009), and a selected designer of the Perspective 40 under 40 Award (2011), has a Master of Architecture & Certification of Urban Policy/Planning from Princeton University. Notably, WE-DESIGNS.ORG, LLC has been selected by Twenty+Change (co-curated by Heather Dubbeldam and Lola Sheppard) as one of twenty Emerging Canadian Design Practices (2011) in Canada.

Fok has an international background from Vienna, New York, London, Paris, Tokyo, Beijing, Hong Kong & Canada. Her art installations have been displayed in Hong Kong, Shanghai, New York, Athens, Venice, & Prague, and has worked on several international architectural projects, exhibitions, & competitions--including the 12th La Biennale di Venezia 2011, the Shanghai Expo 2010, & Athens Fringe Festival 2009.

Fok’s interests are towards investigations of contextual and content-related natures of fabrication, and cradle-to-cradle material investigations that compliment scaled prototypes within architectural design. Meanwhile, her design methodology is to challenge the dynamic significance in structuring and mapping the ideals of art, architecture, and urbanism within the processes of [design | optimisation | fabrication] for sustainable planning, interactive design, material research, and alternative methods of fabrication with progressive aims within the built environment.

Currently, Fok is an Assistant Professor and Lead of the Digital Media and Design Program at the Gerald D Hines College of Architecture at the University of Houston, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s School of Architecture as Co-thesis Advisor and Graduate Material/Fabrication Studios.

On her spare time, Fok is the founder and administrator of (C)ODE-(C)OLLECTIVE: GH + Digital Script + Code Collective—a collective forum for Grasshopper, Rhino, Parametric Modeling, and other digital design tools, which pose as an educational and developing archive site to formulate the critical utility of digital tools—an Associate Member of the HKPDA (Hong Kong Parametric Design Association), and Contributing / Overseas Editor for the a+a magazine, published by the Architectural Society of China.

Fok has also participated in interdisciplinary architectural critiques & discussions at Yale University - Market of Effects Conference, UF - Digital Fabrication Panel (Keynote: Neil Leach), Asian Design Forum Singapore, University of Virginia, Princeton University, Carleton University, University of Applied Arts in Vienna, HKU, to name a few.

Along with being an active Professional Photographer and DJ, his portfolio contains over 30,000 images that have been made in 8 countries spanning 3 continents have all gone towards the various pictures shared in the last 12 months. Currently based in both London, UK and Shanghai, China, his works covers everything from events, reportage, portrait, product and wedding photography as well as honing his skills with fashion photography retouching and always exploring new techniques and building up the experience and equipment necessary to bring out the best in the things he is fortunate enough to see.

Lealand has recently been published recently in the Labour Briefing magazine and DJ Magazine in Amsterdam with further publications on the horizon. His recent work with Kingpin Marketing and the Stay Up Forever music collective has provided new fresh challenges and with all of this in mind he thought it was time to make some updates.

New to the site are the Fashion Retouching, London and Portraits galleries as well as updates to the Landscapes and Graffiti galleries. Fashion retouching shows examples of some of the skills that have been learnt to create the magazine look that we see from those 'perfect' models in magazines, pay close attention to the before and after images in that one. The London gallery is about showing some of the things he really loves about his home city especially now the summer is with us. This city truly comes alive from large public protests to relaxing in the park, just taking in the sights of this architecturally rich city is a pleasure. In the Portrait gallery you will see a mixture of both personal and professional work, with images of friends and clients that James has been commissioned to work with. He has found portrait work to be the most challenging aspect of photography and one he intends to pursue much further.
